Pulp & Paper

The manufacturing process in the paper and cellulose industry is very water-intensive, which is why special emphasis is placed on closed production cycles. Cellulose is the basis for making paper and is obtained from raw wood in a chemical pulping process (generally the kraft pulping or sulphate process).

To extract pulp from wood, the latter is cooked in a soda alkaline solution for several hours at high pressure (7-10 bar). Our quicklime is used to return the alkaline solution, which has a more or less low pH value depending on the type of wood, to the production cycle.

Application

Closing production cycles is a major priority in the cellulose and paper industry. Lime is used for cleaning purposes in paper production. If new paper is produced from pulp bales and/or wastepaper and water, it must first be dehydrated and dried in the paper machine using a number of screens and rollers. This generates large quantities of wastewater, which is treated with our lime products. The wastewater can thus be returned to the natural cycle.
